We Will Survive

If you’ve followed my writing, you know that my values are rooted in integrity, equity, justice, knowledge, and truth. So, it should come as no surprise to anyone who has taken one of my classes in person at 540WMain (or the local library), joined me online, participated in the Unpacking Book Club, or read even one of the books from my annual Must-Read list, that the times we’re living in today—where books are being banned, DEI programs dismantled, and undocumented citizens deported—are not new. For those of us with multiple intersecting identities—whether defined by race, gender, ethnicity, age, size, or disability—this moment in history is not shocking. It’s a recurring cycle, deeply rooted in the violent and often buried truths of America’s past.
